It's funny how the dynamics of motherhood change as your children get older. For my first few Mothers Days I was very young, trying to figure out the whole being a mother thing and expecting Chad to be all elaborate with celebrating me. That's not his style and so I inevitably ended up disappointed. Fast forward a few years and I am older and wiser and not expecting the poor guy to jump through hoops to make the day special. Breakfast in bed? Not a chance. Although the boys took it upon themselves a few years ago and came up with an interesting assortment of breakfast like items, complete with a weed in a cup with water that, in their minds, made an excellent flower!
As the years go by and I get wiser, I have started to really look forward to the little cards that the boys make at school for me. This year was no exception...although Blake forgot to give me his and I finally had to ask him if he did anything for me as I was tucking him in on Mothers Day. He ran and brought me a paper that I will just type up because it was too funny and my scanner doesn't like me: (The words in purple are his answers)
My Marvelous Mom
1. If my mom were a flower, she would be a petunia because she loves them. (News to me!)
2. If my mom were a song, she would be Sweethome Alabama because she like to listen to it.
3. If my mom were a super hero, she would be Wonder Woman because she is full of wonders. (I only wish I could rock that outfit!)
4. If my mom were candy, she would be chocklate because she can't resist it. (He got me there.)
5. If my mom were a car, she would be a Van because she has one. (I do?)
6. If my mom were a color, she would be purple because she loves to wear purple.
7. If my mom were an animal, she would be a cheeta because....(wait for it).....she's very fast at doing the dishes. (Probably my all-time favorite answer.)
That kid really, uh, gets me?
Here's what Trevor brought me, along with a plate that he made and painted a picture of himself and me ("See Mom, this time you have hair!"):
