# 2 has lost # 1!

At exactly 7:48 this morning Trevor lost his first tooth!

It has been really loose for the past week or so, and we discovered why when we looked in his mouth and saw a brand new adult tooth coming in at an almost 45 degree angle behind it. The poor kid definitely inherited his parents' potential for dental bills! This morning he was complaining that it hurt to bite into his Poptart so I asked if I could take a look at it and see how loose it had gotten. Upon seeing that it was barely hanging on by a thread I asked him if I could try to pull it out with some tissue on my hand. Surprisingly, he agreed and two seconds later it was out. I am proud of my Stripling Warrior for being so brave and I am proud of myself for being such a do-it-myself tooth pulling warrior!

Flashback to Saturday morning:

Chad and Trevor were out running errands and Chad noticed Trevor messing with his loose tooth...not wanting him to accidentally pull it out in the car and get blood everywhere (they must have been in Chad's car) Chad told him that he shouldn't mess with it. Trevor (in typical Trevor fashion) didn't miss a beat with this reply, "Oh thank you. You know, this is just my first one and I don't really know the rules yet." Another Trevorism is born everyday!

There's a What Under Our What?

I have so much to post and so little energy! I will start with a rather amusing incident that ocurred while we were in CA last week for my bro-in-law's nuptials.

My wonderful mo-in-law got us a hotel room for several of the nights of our stay because even a 3000 sq ft. house can't handle five McGhies by birth, parents of said McGhies, spouses of said McGhies, one groom, one bride, one grandma, three dogs, twelve McGhie grandkids, and two awesome out of town guests that pretty much became family anyway. I may have left out the partridge in a pear tree, but you get the idea...

Where was I? Oh yes. Hotel. So we spent Thurs. Fri. and Sat. night in a hotel. On Friday night after an exhausting, jam packed, 90 degree + day, Chad and I sort of collapsed on the bed and I was just dosing off when I heard a distinct "Meow!". I felt Chad lift his head a little. "What are you doing?" he was obtuse enough to ask. "Ummm, that wasn't me, that sounded like a cat." (Like I would try to come onto him by meowing...he hates cats!)

We heard the meow again and I lifted my head enough to see a cat tail in the air next to the boy's bed. I think I started to freak out a little then.

"What?!!"

So we got out of bed and turned on the lights and the cat darted under our bed. Chad iron-man lifted the mattress and boxspring and lo and behold, we discovered that the cat had crawled INSIDE our boxspring. Yes. That's right. I said inside. Chad shook it a little and it darted out of the boxspring and...under the boy's bed. Grrr. They were totally oblivious, dead to the world.

Chad then called down to the front desk. "Umm, I am calling to let you know that there is a cat in our room." "Would I be calling if it was my own cat?" (Apparently the guy asked if it was ours, duh.) "Well, can you come and get it or something?" "Ok."

A few minutes later, we had moved the boys to various parts of the room, all three still completely comatose. Trevor and Kade were on the window seat, and Blake was in a blanket cocoon on the floor. The night manager arrived and we proceeded to try to coax it out from behind the overturned bed that the boys had just been sleeping in. The night manager then left to get a box and returned about ten minutes later with a Rubbermaid tote and two guys who spoke even less English than he did.

They succeeded in getting the cat on the move...and it jumped right onto the window seat. I mean, it's back feet skimmed across Trevor's angelic sleeping face! The night manager was then able to grab it by the scruff of the neck and take it out, and we put the beds and boys (still comatose) back and crawled into bed ourselves.

It all turned out fine in the end...but the question on our minds since then is "Why in the heck didn't we notice it until the 2nd night we slept in the room?"

Rafting on the Ocoee River

Chad and I had the awesome opportunity to go whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River this weekend with some friends from our ward, Talia and Dennis Jurinsky and James and Norma Evans. I had heard that it was a thrill of an adventure (Chad has gone twice with a big group of guys from Elders Quorum), but I don't think I was quite prepared for the adventure that we had. Here we are in the before picture.

Notice how we are all bright eyed and innocent looking...

Then we lived through this:

And this:

Aaaaand the after picture:

Our river guide, Nickie, had to join us for this one. It is amazing how quickly you can bond with people during an experience like this.

We ended up eating it pretty big on the first man made class 5 rapid (nicknamed Godzilla). Our raft folded in half, dumping us all on top of each other. I was able to get to shore first, minus one of my shoes and my paddle, followed by Norma. Everyone else ended up having to ride the next class 5 (named Humongous) on their butts. Chad and Dennis went right over some rocks that our guide affectionately called "monkey spankers", that left some gnarly bruises on Chad's hind end, and apparently on Dennis's too. They both lost their wedding rings, Chad tore the tip of his middle finger on his right hand and Dennis gashed both of his knees. Talia sprained her ankle and Nickie got a nasty gash (the only one you can actually see in the after picture) on her right shin. We all came out of it bleeding, but, as Dennis told some other rafters later on, "If you're not bleeding you're not having any fun!"
I don't want to make this too much longer, but I am so thankful that I lived through it all, and I don't know if it is because I hit my head a little too hard on a rock, but I am so ready to do it again next year! Poor Nickie, I bet she will probably run screaming when she sees our names pop onto her schedule!

Blast From the Past

My mom was going through some old pictures the other night while I was there and came across this one:

Wow! That was March 17, 2000. My Senior Ball. My Senior year was a really rough one, for many reasons. This picture brings back so many bittersweet memories! My good buddy Brian (the handsome young devil to my left) was such a good friend to me during that year, he was always a good shoulder to cry on and has remained a good friend through the years, even though I haven't really seen him since Trevor was just a wee babe...about 5 1/2 years ago!

When I first saw this picture again after so long, I was momentarily saddened. Saddened that the dress I wore in it will never fit again after three kids, saddened for the wrinkles that are appearing around my eyes when I smile, and the few gray hairs that I find and have to pluck out every few weeks. Then I realized how good I have it now, my life has been so blessed in the past 9 years, I would NEVER want to go back to the place I was in when this picture was taken.

I may have a few wrinkles and some pounds to lose, but I have a loving husband and three great boys who love their mama. I have a greater understanding of the Gospel and my purpose on Earth, and I am cool with never getting into that dress again...it would be hard to wear it to Playgroup or to drop the kids off at school anyway.

Life is good. Use the Force.

BFFs

I had the privilege of watching my niece, Alyssa, while her brother was having surgery last week. She is easy to have around because she and Kade have become as thick as thieves (and if you don't watch them closely enough they WILL rob you blind!). My sister had the foresight to send along an extra babydoll since there is nothing of the kind in our toybox, except for an old Cabbage Patch doll which my boys completely ignore.

I turned on The Little Mermaid for them and broke out the babies. Kade took the pink one and Alyssa the blue, and they took turns feeding them the bottle. I walked into the room and this is what I found, a happy moment of domestic bliss:
